OUR EXPERIENCE AT BOWEN SECONDARY SCHOOL
To enrich our knowledge, 17 students from Class IX and 4 staff members went to Bowen Secondary School, Singapore. Both schools have MOU to exchange teaching and learning activities and to know better about their culture and heritage
A week long (12.4.2009 to 18.4.2009) stay at Bowen Secondary School gave opportunities for creative learning through digital class rooms. Our teachers experienced international teaching standards. The innovative teaching methodologies supported by stage of the art facilities and modern technology aroused the intellectual curiosity of our students.
The following activities enlightened the students:
a) Sports b) Home stay with buddies, c) the fine arts, d) Performing arts, e) outdoor entertainment lead them to understand their culture better.
This twinning programme exposed our students to a new culture, novel teaching methods and interaction with other students. All these has enriched and widened their intellect and horizons, not as incidental subject matter, but as the primary focus of their educational experience. RMK Residential School through twinning programme with Bowen Secondary School, Singapore, provided a basis for making students’ learning experience, a reality.

| Pongal Celebrations |
Pongal was celebrated at our school in a grand manner with all pomp and gaiety. All the staff and students eagerly participated to make the event a grand success.
The stage was decorated in the traditional way with mango leaves, sugarcane stems, turmeric shoots, etc, with the mandatory painted earthen pots, meant for cooking Pongal.
Children gave eloquent speeches in Tamil & Telugu explaining the relevance of Pongal celebrations, then they came up with a stirring display of dance and drama based on Pongal themes which left the audience spellbound. All this was followed by distribution of sweet Pongal and a lavish buffet lunch. |

| Dakshin Chitra |
RMK Residential students and staff members visited Dakshinachitra on 23.2.2009.
Dakshinachitra, literally meaning “picture of the South”, is an open-air real time museum as well as well known cultural centre. Our children enjoyed the living traditions of performing arts, crafts and architecture of India with an emphasis on the traditions of South India. Our team visited 17 heritage houses, craft bazaar walk along recreated streets caps, interacted with typical village artisans and witnessed folk performances, magic show and bullock cart ride set in authentic ambience. On the whole the trip motivated us to learn crafts. Children are not only entertained, but the activities also help develop their skills and creativity. |
